The Original Torch — Print #101–#450 of 450 | Signed Limited Edition (1986)
Our Story
In 1986, Michael Kingsford, respected New York historical landmark photographer, captured the Statue of Liberty in the days before her centennial celebration — before the crowds, before the tall ships filled the harbor, before the world was watching and before they replaced the original torch.
Those images were made into prints to sell at the historic OpSail event, at the time drawing the largest crowds America had ever seen! But, life moved on, and the prints went into storage for forty years!
They have just resurfaced — all 450 of them, remarkably preserved, untouched, exactly as they were made.
Produced in the summer of 1986, this timeless edition is already nearly a half century old. We have decided to release them for the first time now, in honor of The United States of America’s 250th anniversary.
Each over-size print is 26x40 inches, on museum-quality acid-free stock with a real, hand-applied, gold leaf border — made to the standard of the moment it commemorates!
This is not a reproduction. This is not a reprint. There are only 450 of these vintage pieces in existence, and when they're gone, they're gone.
